dready it's the little things ...

dready - the right dog - image, part of detail from an original commission ...

so, this dog, liquorice is his name, is part of a much bigger family piece ...

the right dog, with the right leash can help make a dready ...

because it's the little things, the chicken, the goat, and how you place them that bring whimsy and life and smiles to a picture, zeeeeen.

big love ...

dready moustaches ...

dready s 'the very fictitious west indian regiment's moustaches' -
                                                 - 10x14 - unlimited edition print/fundraising

it's MoVember coming up and the local committee asked me if I'd come up with a dready ...

in my mind moustaches are linked to 4 things; disco, cops, (disco-cops), hipsters and the ignoble business of victorian era militarism ...

and i'm a fan of the flashman books, love his character ...

and so I began to play with the idea in my head of what a west indian victorian adventurer-soldier might be like: irreverent, cool, bad-man, swish ...

he'd be like sir richard burton; he'd write books on sex and discover the source of the nile all in a week like ...

to rass ...

dready s belize days

dready art's 'a mennonite at pasadita's fast food' - image

so, i grew up in and out of belize, my father was there for 30 years before moving to flores guatemala ...

and so ya know, i like it ... and i have brilliant lovely awesome memories of being there.

then the other day imma passing through instagram and i see a photo by someone of a little place (I ain't never been) called pasadita's fast food - the food's anything but 'fast'; it's quick, it's ready but is great stuff like garnachas ... i love garnachas!

the t'ing, the food t'ing that i crave most from belizean memory though is bbq chicken and fresh tortilla; first best was a little place by the bridge in cayo, on the santa elena side, and i'd stop there eat some bbq on my way home back to the ranch in the darkness of night.

next best was in the square at orange walk ... maybe i dreaming that one, 'cause i'd not had belize bbq in a long while that evening i found myself in orange walk ...

so anyhow, short story long ... i saw this photo and i imagined a little mennonite sneaking in to grab some fast food ... and i wanted it to be a traditional dready scene ...

and so ...

bless up brali ...

and you better belize it.

dready at the end of the journey

dready s 'you, at the end of the journey' - image

the culmination (i think) of a series I was working on called 'the journey' - which is, again, about two people journeying, separately, toward one another ...

it had a nice vibe to it - or has, 'cause am not quite finished yet, I have a couple of additions that I feel I want to make.

dunno where this is in the end as it's a total fabrication a mix of india and jamaica and bali and sri lanka and mexico and places in my head, like belize ...
