dready up on the bayou

dready 'the camp on the bayou' - original on paper - 22x14

a family from atlanta asked me to do a dready for their father in louisiana, in new orleans ... the only thing that i had to work with really, was that he liked fishing, loved being on his boat and that the louisiana water wasn't the lovely blue of the caribbean...

so I started with that and the dready kinda evolved organically ... I wanted to show some elements of what being on the water in the bayou is all about ... I've been to baton rouge and beyond Louisiana in the verges of the bayou in mobile and biloxi ...

big old trees and old man's beard, spanish moss ... and small wood cottages, shacks

At the time I didn't know that the family had a holiday house, that had been destroyed in Katrina - but after the first draft the story of the house came up - this is the nice part about a dready, the interaction and the participation of the client ... so 'the camp' snuck into the image.

dready art's eulogy for a friend

dready 'waiting to play fetch' - original on paper - 16x14 inches

a friend lost his dog, she meant a lot to him, obviously, and so we drew this dready to commemorate a life ...

and I dunno, it seemed fitting that she'd be inside looking out 'waiting to play fetch' ...

dready a rude bwoy jamaican

dready art's 'rude bwoy' - image

i'd already drawn the bones of this dready as part of another idea: one about fashion and street style, and how it's reflected in the caribbean world that I know, when bling asked me if I'd draw him into a dready ...

and as i was thinking of how i would do that, i was reminded of the eek-a-mouse reggae song, 'rude bwoy jamaican', by someone ... there sitting at lunch, she had video-ed Eek singing, at round hill - dooood has an amazing deep melodious voice; 'bread in de oven baking, here come de rude bwoy jamaican' ...

and so as I sat listening to it, the idea of reimagining this dready came to mind - because of his style and vibe and verve and the way he was walking and t'ing ... 'cause this is him, this is the rude bwoy.

big up ...

dready in the lebanon

                        Dready Art - A magazine, Aishti, Issue #88 - page 220-222

As part of an article, by Michael Welton, on the new Kimpton seafire resort hotel in the Lebanese style and fashion magazine A, there are photographs and very cool mention of dready art ...
“especially touching are the works of art mounted throughout ground floor drawn by gifted local artist called dready”
https://issuu.com/aishti/docs/amag88

dready is fortunate to be part of the whole seafire thing it is a gorgeous and lovely hotel and am moved by the way people appreciate the dreadys, have time to see the dreadys in this setting with so much good going on in it.

dready in disguise

dready art 'portrait of a man in disguise' - image - 24x24

so this is not really a story about a man with a gun; the gun is a prop, and part of the greater story of a 'portrait of a man in disguise' ...

it was, to me, a cool cool idea to portray this man, who knows that this is him, in disguise ...

anonymity even in art ...

but it was the pose that drew me to draw him, confident, up right, strong, a small wry smile ...
