Dready ... Ride Natty Ride

dready s 'morning ride' -32x14 - Limited edition HD archival pigment print

one of my earliest memories - and this is a weird one perhaps given its extreme violence - is the movie 'the wild bunch' ... who wouldn't want to be a cowboy after that, eh ...

dready - evolution of a cowgirl

dready art 'cowgirl' - 17x26 - limited edition HD archival pigment print

an evolution of an image and an idea ...  right down to the dog and where to put it was an evolution ...

so it started with 2 completely separate projects, one about cowboys and one about a girl and her horse and the two started to meld together along the way ... you know, what better cowboy horse than an appaloosa kinda thought process. (you can see the appaloosa below)

then it was just a cowgirl on a horse, and I thought it needs something, some whimsy, it needs a dog and emma said yes, definitely it needs a dog ... and people started to suggest kinds of dogs ...

elena has a dog named willow and willow's kinda in and out of the house all the time, she was here today just hanging out while we worked, and although this isn't really willow, per se, it is kinda like willow, especially the look ... (if it don't go so, it nearly go so.)

dunno, maybe a cross between willow and guiness and some other dog, some random internet dog ... i was drawing a black dog ('cause of ease and because another coloured animal would clash) but i felt a touch, a smidge of white on the dog would help ...

anyhow, so evolution ...

revolution ...

dready art s going for goal #2

dready 'going for goal #2' - 17x26 - limited edition HD archival pigment print

the very kind chisholm gallery of wellington, palm beach, looks after dready, and hangs it on walls, and sells it, and in general treats it with love and care ...

wellington is polo town usa and chisholm specialises in polo and sporting art and so while i was on a  tangent of horses and other things, and so i did an evolution of 'polo girl #3' to create 'going for goal #2', in the same way that we have a 'dressage bwoy' and a 'dressage girl' ... got to keep putting out new stuff ...

the other thing i was doing, while drawing, was watching the gold cup final polo match, from palm beach, on tv, flex jet vs valiente ... and so the inspiration, eh ... was a good match, 26 goal polo is very very cool and fast.

deh pon a flex ...

dready s kingdom for a horse

                                           dready 'appaloosa' - image

man, i love a horse, i love the feeling of going for a long long ride out ... i could ride every day if i had a chance and the space(!!) but there's none here on our beautiful but built up island the size of postage stamp - unless you want to ride in a ring ...

was chatting to one of the guys i used to do horses with, he had a little stables and all group of boys/men kept horses there, and he's given up too; all the trails we used to ride out to have been built on; maybe there's some in east end still, but too hard to get to, you can beach ride in barkers, but ...

i watched a documentary once about a man who rode across america, in modern times, now that's an undertaking, eh ... some people I know did a 5 day ride across the andes, that's more like it I think ... I want to do a ride from alberta into british columbia ... the space to do that in if you wanted to though ...

i used to ride every day in my holidays from school; would ride to see friends all 15 miles away, in the days before i could drive (it's far easier to drive 15 miles! and soooo much quicker) ...

so, I was working on something and it included some horses - i like a chestnut horse best, all shiny red and t'ing but there's something very cool about an appaloosa, more so than a paint, the spots - and it was a cowboy thing for a texas client, and appaloosa's are an US breed and so ...

ride it ...
