dready - the beach walk

dready art 'the beach walk' - image

we used to walk the dogs down the beach every day; but the truth is that as romantic as it sounds, a beach walk with the dog is a pain - 'cause when you come home you've got to wash the beast and the beast don't like to be washed ...

when dogs dry from a sea bath, if you haven't washed them, they smell like rotten eggs ... and the sand, the sand if you don't wash it off gets everywhere ... everywhere ...

and so now that we live across from the beach and not on it, we can walk the shaded lane with its mixture of the old and the new, quaint and cool, and just look at the sea through gaps in the houses and foliage, see it in full across empty plots, walk down the access paths to the very edge; we show the dog the sand and the sea, we get the romance of the cottage lane and the sea view and walk on satisfied that when we get home the dog is walked and we don't have to wash it!

the dog wants the beach and the sea, she wants to swim and cavort and roll and tumble ... when we pass the access she likes to tug left or right depending on our direction of travel, she wants in ... if only she knew how to operate the hose and could bathe herself!

truth ...

dready - things you don't know

dready art 'kneeling in the bath' - image

I started drawing this as a single character, the blonde, standing, no dog, no bath, no room, no window ...

then all of a sudden the character was standing in a bath ... i liked the idea better, it was like she was caught unawares and the bath suited the scene ...

then the towel was in her hand and she was half covering herself, and then it wasn't it was on the bath and another on the chair and a red stripe ...

then there was someone else in the bath too ... and soon the room filled itself ...

and then the dog arrived ...

and then she knelt as if she was about to stand and I liked it best ...

change is good

woof!
